Cyclist in Her 80s Seriously Injured Following Collision With Truck in Kildare

An elderly woman has been hospitalised with serious injuries following a road traffic collision involving a truck in County Kildare on Monday morning.

The incident occurred shortly before 10am on the R414 Rathangan Road in Monasterevin. The stretch of road where the collision happened is known locally as the “Cow Pastures”.

According to Gardaí, the woman, who is in her 80s, was cycling when she was involved in the collision with the truck. She sustained injuries described as serious and was subsequently taken to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin for medical treatment.

The truck driver was not injured in the incident.

Following the collision, the affected section of the R414 was closed to allow Garda forensic collision investigators to carry out a technical examination of the scene. Traffic diversions were introduced while the investigation was under way.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward with information that could assist the investigation.

Motorists who were travelling along the R414 around the time of the incident are also being asked to check whether they have dashcam footage that may have captured the collision or events immediately before or after it.
