Data Electronics is expanding, with the opening of a new EUR2.5 million extension to its Dublin facility.
The extension brings the size of the Kilcarbery Park facility up to 21,000 square feet, marking phase two of the project. Already Vodafone has signed up for space in the new facility, with a multi-million euro contract. Data Electronics will host part of the mobile operator’s voice and data infrastructure, allowing the company to up its resilience and capacity on the network.
According to Data Electronics, the expansion is the first of its kind in the country since the downturn in the data centre market in 2000.
Maurice Mortell, chief executive of Data Electronics, told ElectricNews.Net that the expansion was necessary due to customer demand for its services. He also pointed out that there was an increasing maturity in the Irish market with regards to managed services. “It’s becoming a well-worn track for businesses,” he said, saying that Irish businesses were becoming more comfortable with outsourcing services to firms such as Data Electronics.
The new facility was opened by the Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Micheal Martin, who described the services as “a strong magnet” for investment from both Irish and overseas companies.
“The availability of facilities such as the Data Electronics operation has and will continue to be hugely influential on the decisions by many world leading companies to locate their operations in Ireland,” said Minister Martin.
Data Electronics has invested millions of euro in its facility, reaching EUR13 million in the past five years. In this time, staff numbers have also increased by 40 percent.
“It represents a significant milestone in Ireland’s development as a gateway to Europe for international companies and further highlights the governments progress in attracting e-commerce enterprises,” said Mortell.
“We remain committed to expansion as demanded by our growing customer base and are confident the new facility will continue to drive international business into Ireland serving the needs of our new customers like Vodafone to the highest standards.”
Data Electronics has another unit in Blanchardstown that is not currently being used, should the need arise to expand further.
